ABOUT US

There can be times in our lives where we find it difficult to see the way forward, and so we aim to offer you a safe, confidential space where you can begin to look at some of the issues that might be troubling you.

HOW WE COUNSEL

Counselling:
Our aim during counselling at Sycamore Counselling Service, Hexham is to enable positive change through a professional caring relationship, working within clearly agreed boundaries. The service is offered regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnic or cultural background, to people of any faith or none.

We work with adults (aged 18 or over) on an individual basis, and do not currently offer couples counselling or family therapy. Each counsellor has a different way of working depending on their training and model used, and all are trained to Diploma level or above. Counsellors are Christians and are motivated by their faith to seek to serve the community. Whilst all those working at Sycamore Counselling Service share a world view that is drawn from the Christian faith, there is no expectation that clients will hold the same world view.

We hold membership with either the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) or the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC).

Confidentiality:
Confidentiality is a key element in our practice. However there are exceptions to confidentiality, which would be explained to you at your Assessment session.

Sessions:

The first session is an Assessment session which gives us an opportunity to find out a little of what may be troubling you, and gives you an opportunity to ask any questions. All sessions last for 50 minutes. Please arrive punctually at the time of your appointment.

Supervision:
As professionally trained counsellors we are all under supervision, an essential ethical requirement of every counsellor.  Confidentiality will always be kept within supervision.

Existing help:
If you are seeing any other professional agency, Doctor, Psychiatrist or support group, you should continue to do so.  Please make us aware of this at your assessment session, as it may not always be appropriate for you to receive counselling here at the same time. If you are on medication you should remain on it.

Opening hours:

We are currently open Monday to Friday from 9am - 6pm.

Location:

Sessions take place in a private ground floor counselling room in the centre of Hexham, Northumberland. There is plentiful free onsite car parking, and the location is accessible by road, train and bus. There is a public Cafe onsite and the whole complex is wheelchair accessible.

Suggested donations:

Sycamore Counselling Service, Hexham relies solely on donations for income; however we do not want financial constraints to be a barrier to receiving help. Below we have set out a guideline for donations.

If you are unwaged, we suggest a donation of £3.00 per session.

If you earn approximately £5 per hour or £10k per year, we suggest a donation of £5.00 per session.
